Interesting. SF (809k people in 601 km^2) is about the same size as my town (480k people in 536 km^2). SF is much denser (1.34k/km^2 v. 0.896k/km^2). More to the point, my town doesn't have much in the way of recreation - that's why my students always complain about it being a small town. As you might expect, people in China have less money so they don't go out as often or do as much of a variety of fun things. There are many KTVs, but I have never found a swimming pool or a bowling alley and it was a little difficult to find a dance club. Another odd thing: No McDonalds, but we have 3 KFCs within 5 minutes walk of each other.
