| It seems to me that most of the posts regarding this article come from people who have not or do not understand that the constitution is the "law of the land". Some have rightly pointed out that the military take an oath to defend and protect the constitution as do elected politicians. I believe the elected officials do not care about the constitution, nor their citizens. They are too busy getting rich by supporting large companies and institutional lobbies that give them financial support in the millions. Since the citizens don't give them this money, who do you think gets their attention? Lets examine a few ideas: this country was founded on the belief in small government, no standing army, gold and silver coin as the only money, no central bank, and that all federal government gets its "power" from the various states and their citizens. The US was created by an act of secession and the British decided to subdue them by waging war.Implicit in the Constitution was a right to secede by any state that disagreed with the central government. There were many both in the North and the South that threatened secession over various laws that were passed by the federal government or by state nullification of those laws (by the rights enumerated in the 9th and 10th articles). The right of secession was considered to be perfectly normal until Lincoln who decided to kill every last citizen of the states that seceded over the oppressive tariffs that were being imposed by the Federal government and the Northern states on the South. The war was not over slavery! (In fact, Lincoln did not really care about slavery and voted to suppress "people of color" from voting). So the civil war was fought to return the seceding states back into the Union. There are currently at least 10 states that are considering or who have passed laws of nullification of various federal laws and several of them that are actually considering secession, as they believe like our founders that "When in the course of human events...." they have the right to remove themselves from the tyrants. This is no small thing and not just a bunch of "wingnuts" or rednecks. Only people who are "wingnuts" either from the left or the right, believe in the right of the federal government to eliminate all opposition by use of force. Just remember, if you happen to not pay your taxes, that same government can and will use the same force on you. If a police officer comes to your door and you refuse entry, you can be arrested for resisting arrest (thanks to the Patriot Act). Those same people believe it is right for the US to invade or attack any country that disagrees with us. Just look at this list of wars since our founding:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_United_St ... |

Good to hear something positive concerning Detroit.
He's not necessarily wrong in his thinking, just in his way of expressing it. If everyone *has* to buy insurance then the insurance companies can charge whatever arbitrarily high price they want, unless there is a shut off valve, like a public option. The trick is to mandate the public option must make money, or at least break even. This keeps the game "fair", or at least reasonably fair.

“This is partly true, except you are wrong about swine flu, it doesn't kill "the weak ones", it does the exact opposite. It's defining quality is that UNLIKE seasonal flu, it doesn't push sick people over the edge, but some times it kills completely healthy people. Fast.Another detail you fail to mention, is the evolutionary scenario where the genetic property that makes a virus dangerous, is the same that makes it spreadable. This is the "general case" with influenzas; they are dangerous to humans by default, because they infect our vital respiratory systems, which then keeps ejecting viral "spores" all day long. If swine flu finds a more extreme version of this, spreadable+dangerous, it becomes evolutionarily successful, AND deadly.

I read one of the Twilight books. The writing and story was like cotton candy, easy to digest with no substance. That said, I'm glad kids are reading this garbage than watching extra hours and hours of TV.?

If the advantage is based on the weight of the lower legs, why not just make his prosthetics proportionately as heavy as as his legs would be?

Barbara Walters was doing a documentary on the customs of American Indians. After a tour of the reservation, she asked why there was a difference in the number of feathers in headdresses. She asked a brave who had only one feather in his headress."Me have only one squaw, so me only have one feather." She asked another brave, feeling the first fellow was putting her on."Me have four feathers, because me sleep with four squaws." Still not convinced the number of feathers indicated the number of of mates involved, she decided to interview the chief, who had a headdress full of feathers."Me chief, me *****-em all.""You ought to be hung!" a horrified Barbara Walters said."Damn right, me hung like buffalo.""You don't have to be so damn hostile!" cried Barbara Walters."Hoss-style, dog-style, hog-style, wolf-style, any-style. Me *****-em all!""Oh dear!""No deer. ***** too high and run too fast. No *****-em deer."
